Stable cold heading, controlled quench distortion and reliable corrosion protection all play a direct role in fastener quality and delivery performance. Because materials, part designs and production conditions vary, industrial fluids must be matched to the process to help maintain consistent manufacturing results.
Nanjing Kerun Industrial Media Co., Ltd. (“KERUN”) supports key stages across the fastener manufacturing process, from forming and cleaning to heat treatment, surface finishing and final corrosion protection. Its industrial fluids and application support help manufacturers address practical challenges at critical process steps.
01 | Solutions for Key Manufacturing Processes
KERUN provides industrial fluids and application support tailored to the processing characteristics and quality requirements of each fastener manufacturing stage.
Cold Heading and Thread Forming
Designed for demanding, high-volume forming operations
KERUN offers cold-heading fluids, forming oils and metalworking fluids for cold heading, upsetting, thread rolling, thread forming and tapping. The solutions focus on lubrication, extreme-pressure performance and foam control to support high-deformation forming, stable production and reduced tooling loads.
Phosphate Removal and Cleaning
Improving surface cleanliness for downstream processes
KERUN supplies phosphate-removal agents and cleaners to address phosphate coatings and forming-oil residues before heat treatment, as well as fluid residues left after processing. Properly matched removal and cleaning processes help prepare surfaces for subsequent tempering, electroplating and black oxide finishing.
Heat Treatment and Quenching
Supporting heat-treatment quality and dimensional control
KERUN provides quenching oils and other heat-treatment fluids. Taking material grade, part geometry and equipment conditions into account, its application support focuses on cooling performance and fluid condition to help control hardness, microstructure and dimensional distortion across different fastener applications.
Black Oxide Finishing and Final Corrosion Protection
Balancing appearance with protection through delivery
KERUN offers black oxide agents and rust-preventive oils or compounds. Solutions are selected with attention to color consistency, coating adhesion and bath stability, as well as the packaging, storage and transportation conditions that affect finished-part appearance and corrosion protection.
From selecting a fluid for an individual operation to coordinating quality requirements across connected process steps, KERUN evaluates performance under actual production conditions and uses on-site validation to assess solution value.
02 | Application Results in Real Manufacturing Conditions
Industrial-fluid performance depends on the material, equipment and process conditions. KERUN works with customers to analyze operating conditions, match fluids to process requirements and validate applications. The following examples illustrate results in cold heading and heat treatment.
Case Study 1: Replacing an Imported Fluid in High-Strength Fastener Cold Heading
At an automotive high-strength fastener manufacturing site, a KERUN forming fluid was used for cold-heading operations involving materials such as 10B21 and SCM435, for parts up to M22 in size.
The on-site upsetting ratio reached 65–70%. The fluid met the lubrication requirements of high-deformation forming and enabled replacement of the imported product.
Case Study 2: Controlling Quench Distortion in Long Fasteners and Extending Fluid Life
At one manufacturer, an imported quenching fluid used for an M16 × 240 mm long fastener failed after three months, resulting in part distortion. After the customer switched to KERUN KR6480 water-soluble quenching medium, fluid service life increased to 7–8 months, and the dimensional-distortion acceptance rate in inspection reached 100%.
These cases demonstrate the value industrial fluids can deliver in different process stages. Final fluid selection should still account for material, part geometry, equipment and process requirements, with suitability confirmed through application trials.
03 | From Process-Specific Products to Integrated Solutions
Fastener manufacturing processes are closely connected. In addition to initial performance and purchase price, manufacturers should consider process compatibility, product quality, service life and operating and maintenance costs when selecting industrial fluids.
KERUN draws on industrial-fluid R&D and application experience to support key fastener manufacturing processes. Through technical development, fluid selection and application validation, KERUN helps customers move beyond individual product selection toward integrated solutions.
As the fastener industry continues to pursue consistent quality, higher productivity and greener manufacturing, KERUN will continue to create value through technology and work with customers and ecosystem partners to develop industrial-fluid solutions suited to real production needs.
Our vision: To be a global leader in eco-industrial fluids, partnering with ecosystem players to make intelligent manufacturing better.
KERUN looks forward to deeper collaboration with fastener manufacturers, applying professional industrial-fluid expertise to support better manufacturing quality and the industry’s long-term development.
